The Tikal National Park, in the Peten
region of Northern Guatemala, contains some of the most fascinating
archaeological remains of the ancient Maya Civilization. In 1979 it was
declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site - both Cultural and Natural. The postcard
shown above depicts this site very well. The Tikal Temples, Acropolis and Pyramids,
as well as the parrots in the park are all very impressive, making you realize that
it is indeed a place with beautiful landscapes and also of great cultural
significance. Thank you very much James for this great card!
The
stamps on the postcard are very attractive too, especially the one devoted for “100th
Anniversary of the Republic of China (Taiwan)”. It is really good designed: the
background was comprised of the two national flags while the headquarters of President
in two countries - National Palace (Guatemala) and Presidential Office Building
(Taiwan) are both featured under the flags, the official log and slogan of the Anniversary
are also shown too . As a reminder, Guatemala is one of the 22 UN member states currently maintaining formal diplomatic
relations with the ROC (Taiwan).
