Santorini

Another weekend is coming, enjoy it my friends. :) Today's thanks to Milda and Chenghao for these great postcards show stunning view of Santorini island, Greece. I don't think I need to introduce more information about Santorini as it is one of the most famous tourist destinations of Greece, even of the world. Just wish to see it one day in the future. :) Nice Europa and Tourism 2013 stamps are used!

Medieval City of Rhodes

This time I am going to share with you another surprising postcard from my friend's holiday. It is from Rhodes Island, Greece. Many thanks to my Austrian friend Jasmin! :)
Actually I know the island because of the most famous western Christian military order during the middle ages, the Knights Hospitaller. They had occupied Rhodes more than 200 years and transformed the city into a stronghold. After then, the island had been captured by the Ottoman Empire and the Kingdom  of Italy successively. The postcard shows the main entrance to the Palace of the Grand Master built by the Knights in early 14th century. It was served as a palace, headquarters and fortress during their occupation time, then a command center and fortress of the Ottoman Turkish and later a holiday residence of the King of Italy. In 1988, the Medieval City of Rhodes was declared as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The stamp is one of the set "Sailing Tourism" issued in 2013.

Acropolis of Athens

The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a high rocky outcrop above the city of Athens and containing the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site “Acropolis, Athens” since 1987. Many thanks to Milda for this gorgeous postcard with many beautiful stamps!
